Organisation mission statement
Krousar Thmey provides deprived children with material, educational and social support in harmony with their
environment and respectfully to their traditions and beliefs. This assistance tends to guide these children towards a responsible adult life without creating privilege or dependancy.

Target group
The main beneficiaries of this project are the low vision children aged between 6 to 14 years old in Cambodia, especially those who study in Krousar Thmey schools as well as in integrated classes.

Project purpose
This project aims at providing an adapted education to low vision pupil and at improving the quality of low vision students’ learning and 85% of low-vision students are able to write and read printed letters at the end of school year 2010-2011.


Targets Description

  • 3 teachers of integrated classes, 9 teachers of Krousar Thmey, 4 director of school for blind and 4 staffs
    from ABC attending a follow-up training to improve their teaching method for low vision students in June
    2010. 2 translators will provide the translation from English to Khmer and vice versa during the training.
  • 6 Qualified teachers will participate in creating the curriculum with Ms. Karin van Dijk, low vision specialist, in
    June 2010. The curriculum will be a reference document for the training to the teachers for pupil with visual dependency. Inclusion of five low vision students to their local school.
  • 155 Low vision students study in Krousar Thmey school as well as in integrated classes in academic year 2009- 2010.
  • 5 Low vision students will be referred to the local school in Kampong Speu province (South-West of Cambodia)
    in October. This is the pilot project.
  • 10 Low visions will undergo a surgery or a clinical assessment.
  • 2 Optometrists conduct eye screening, provide devices and conduct follow up for low vision children
  • 155 Low vision students will receive 20 Glasses, 10 magnifiers, 10 book stands, 10 lamps, 13 boxes of pen, 13
    boxes of pencil.
  • 37 Teachers will receive a training on low-vision will conducted by core trainer and hold in each special school.
  • 24 Core trainers from the four special school will gather together to revise what they have learnt lately with Ms.
    Karin van Dijk in 2009.
  • 3 Teachers will go on visit the low-vision program in India
