Organisation mission statement
To work in partnership with MOSALVY, other Ministries, and other NGOs to develop an association that empowers
blind and visually impaired people through increased capacity of skills, training, socialization, ability, and knowledge. Also the ABC is a self-help organization that advocates members empowering themselves. The ABCwas established to promote and foster equal opportunities and full participation of blind and visually impaired people in Cambodia. 

Target group
130 Blind and visually people (60 new and 70 old) in 9 district of kampong cham province received loan for income generation activities such as husbandry, small business, animal raising etc and orientation mobility, daily living skills training to increase capacity adding daily live skills at the end of year 2010. This will be achieved through the ABC field workers consulting with blind and visually impaired people and their families. Further, blind and visually impaired people will have access to information pertaining to disability issues and advocacy awareness through becoming members of the ABC. ABC field workers will also meet with the family of blind and visually impaired people and help with educating the family on not being abusive or neglectful.

49 Blind children previous years are continuing their learning at blind school and integration class through facilitate by field workers and teachers of blind school. This will be achieved through the ABC field workers networking and collaborating with the Krousar Thmey; the blind and visually impaired children, their family and other stakeholders. 23 Low vision children from the previous school year will follow up and monitor them and refer children so that they can obtain refraction screening at the krousar thmey blind school. Field staff will facilitate teachers and encourage parents of low vision children to enroll the children in the public school and referral to eye surgeries at eye clinic at the end of year 2010.
180 Villagers, authorities, villager volunteer are targetted to participate in primary health care awareness at Tbong Khmom, Memot, Kroch Chhmar, Kos Soten, Damber and Steoung Trong district at the end of year 2010. This whill help people in the community to understand how to prevent eye blindness and how to identify children to send to schools. There are 6 events planned on primary eye health care awareness. This will be achieved through facilitation and collaboration with authorities at district level. 90 Blind and visually impair people, villagers, local authorities, and village volunteers will participate in the three advocacy forums for blind in Memot, Damber and Pohnea Kraek district at the end of year 2010.
2 staff of ABC will have finished a three weeks study tour and have a deeper understanding on potential models of successful inclusive self help groups at Battambang, Siem Reap, Takeo, Pursat province and are able to share experience and best practical to other ABC’s CBR staff at end of year 2010. 34 representative from NGO, INGO, authorities and relevant stakeholders are able to link with ABC’s CBR program in the strategy workshop on self help group and mainstreaming visually impaired people at the end of June 2010. 10 (8ABC’s CBR staff plus 2 expert of creation self help group, mainstreaming expert lecture) completed the self help group and mainstreaming of visually impaired people training and they are able to improve implementation the project related to the set up of self help groups and mainstreaming disabilities in education at the end of year

Project purpose
With this project we want to reach out and increase social, economic and political status to all the blind and visually impaired people and their family living in the 9 districts in Kampong Cham provinces, irrespective of age, gender, religious beliefs and ethnicity. The purpose of this project is to facilitate access - to 80% of blind and visually impaired children in Kampong Cham - to receive an education at the Krousar Thmey Blind School through a referral system facilitated and coordinated by field worker staff and low vision children will have a good opportunity to continued study in normal school through facilitated by field staff at the end of 2010. This process will enable blind and visually impaired children to have the same chances and opportunities as sighted children in terms of education
Furthermore, 80% of blind and visually adults and their family can be rehabilitated which will improve their family economic a responsible adult life without creating any privileges or dependency.

Targets Description

  • 90 Blind and visually impair people, villager, local authorities, villager volunteers participated in the three of
    advocacy forums for blind in Memot, Damber and Pohnea Kraek at the end of year 2010.
  • 2 Staff have finished the study tour and research model on of successful self help group inclusive disabilities
    for 3 weeks and able to sharing experience and best practical to other ABC’s CBR staff at end of year 2010.
  • 34 Representative from NGO, INGO, authorities and relevant stakeholders are able to link with ABC’s CBR
    program in the strategy workshop on self help group and mainstreaming visually impaired people at the end of year 2010.
  • 10 (8ABC’s CBR staff plus 2 expert of creation self help group, mainstreaming expert lecture) are able to
    improve implementation the project after complete self help group and mainstreaming disabilities training end
