Organisation mission statement
ICEH Mission Statement: Research and Education to improve eye health and eliminate avoidable blindness with
a focus on low income populations.

Target group
The target group is primary, secondary and tertiary eye health workers in developing countries and poorer populations who lack access to up-to-date practical information and training materials to improve their knowledge and skills. The ultimate beneficiaries are people who are blind, or at risk of blindness, in the communities served by the target group. This target group is made up of male and female eye health workers.

Project purpose
The purpose is to provide eye health workers with up-to-date information and educational resources to help them deliver the best possible quality of eye care to the poorest and most needy communties in 2010.

Targets Description

  • 25,000 eye health workers to receive the Community Eye Health Journal. (English, French, Spanish, Chinese,
    Portuguese, with an Indian supplement)
  • 2 websites to be regularly maintained and updated with new materials.
  • 1 photo Library to be maintained and upated on the web.
  • 2 new educational resources (CD-ROMS: Community Eye Health Journal & educational materials. (English and
    French/Portuguese/Spanish)
  • 1 Rapid Assessment for Avoidable Blindness (RAAB) networking web facility.
  • 1 on-line database to support teaching and learning.
  • 3000 free and low cost mateterials will be distributed to eye health workers in developing nations.
  • 7 regional Community Eye Health Resource Centres to continue to receive support and free resources.
  • 4 eye health training centres in developing countries will have established training partnerships with UK eye
    hospitals.
  • 1 readership survey for the Community Eye Health journal and its translated editions, and including questions
    on educational materials produced by ICEH.
