Organisation mission statement CMA's mission in Africa is to assist churches and communities to effectively meet the spiritual,social and physical needs of their communities. CMA's aim in Sudan is to improve the quality of life of people in upper Nile Region by reducing the prevalence of common diseases and increase self reliance
Target group The proposed project will benefit rural communities in the whole of Jonglei and Upper Nile and Jonglei States of South Sudan. The principal beneficiaries of the project will be people affected by eye diseases, the visually impaired and their families. School age children, young adults and the aged will be priority groups. Secondary beneficiaries will be local and external institutions serving people with eye problems.
Project purpose The project purpose is to “reduce the prevalence of avoidable blindness and low vision in Jonglei and Upper Nile States of South Sudan by establishing and strengthening local institutions to provide sustainable quality eye care services by 2011”
Targets Description
- 40 Refresher training of different cadre of Eye care staff to have improved skills to screen, diagnose, design
and implement appropriate treatment plans.
- 200 PWVI and their families have improved knowledge, attitude and practices regarding hygiene, sanitation and
life skills. (Orientation and Mobility skills and activities of daily living)
- 167 To distribute spectacles to correct refractive error to school going children and adults.
- 50,000 Communities in target areas are better equipped to prevent contraction of eye diseases through Health.
- 6 Maintain the 2 Existing NGOs and 4 County Health Departments are able to provide eye care services to the
communities through PHC and MOH County Hospitals.
- 30 PWVI and their families are able to generate income to meet their basic needs.
- 2 Eye Care issues are included in government policies through collaborative meetings and workshops. Eye
care workers are absorbed in MOH structures/systems.
- 40,000 People with eye diseases access quality eye care services with an emphasis on Trachoma, Vitamin A
deficiency, Conjunctivitis, OV and Glaucoma.
- 1,500 To surgically treat patients suffering from Trachoma Triachiasis.
- 800 To reach and surgically repair Cataracts.
- 2,000 To reach out to school going children and adults suffering from refractive errors and manage the cases.
- 2 Internal and External Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting of the Project operational systems.
- 100 To reach and surgically repair Trauma related cases and other minor surgical cases.
- 210 Selection of various cadres of eye care workers for training / refresher. (volunteers; TBAs, CHWs,
Community Leaders)
- 15 Training of various cadres of eye care workers.
- 2 Supervise and monitor progress of training and field activities for the project.
