Target group Direct: Children with disabilities (Visually impaired, the physically handicapped, hearing impaired and the mentally challenged. Indirect: Parents and communities living with children who have disabilities, teachers at the mainstream primary and the GoSS personnel.
Project purpose To support education for ALL with emphasis to reinforcing equal access of children with special needs into mainstream quality education.
Targets Description
- 50 Increased enrolment and retention of CWDs in 10 mainstream schools within 6 Payams in Maiwut County by
end of 2011.
- 40 Government officials, community leaders, and other key stakeholders enlightened through awareness raising
on the needs of children with disabilities by the end of 2010.
- 60 Provided with need based educational skills to mainstream schools through pre-service teacher training by
end of 2010.
- 4 Improved learning environment in mainstream primary schools by the end of 2010.
- 50 Teachers trained on the 3rd phase and key committed teachers identified for the programme future vision.
- 20 Public forums held to create awareness on provision of quality education to CWDs through dissemination of
learned lessons during public forums, disability days and periodic meetings by the end of 2010.
- Resource and assessment centres identified and established and operational for screening and improved
placement in school and referrals by 2011.
- 2 Small associations for parents and friends of Children with disabilities formed and received training on
rehabilitation skills by end of 2010.
