Organisation mission statement
As the social arm of Catholic Church in Nepal, Caritas Nepal aims to apply animation and sector specific
participatory approaches to empower the poor, marginalized, and disadvantaged people to reduce poverty, secure
humanitarian assistance in times of emergency and conflict, and realize social justice and peace.

Target group
Bhutanese Refugee People with Disability of Refugee Camps in Nepal.

Project purpose
1) Access to and opportunity of the facilities provided in the refugee community.
2) To encourage people with disability for the economic empowerment through skill development training.
3) To capacitate the field level staff working for the disability programme.
4) To raise awareness in the refugee community on the prevention and rehabilitation of people with disability.

Targets Description

  • 560 Bhutanese Refugee People with Disability at the end of the Project Period in Seven Refugee Camps are
    provided Medical Certificate of Disability from Recognized Government Medical Institution.
  • 295 Hearing devices to 195 people with hearing impaired, Orthotics and prosthesis to 35 persons with physical
    disability, glasses- 65 persons, Braille materials for visually impaired students and computers. 
  • 72 Severely Disabled Refugee Children (Spastic Cerebral Palsy) at Palliative Care Centre of 7 Camps are
    provided Supplementary Feeding up to project period.
  • 210 people with disability (dropped out and over aged children) will receive the Vocational trainings 
  • 14 field level staff (Disability In-charges and Assistants) will receive the Community based Rehabilitation
    Training.
  • 14 field level staff (Disability In-charges and Assistants) will receive the Training on Braille and mobility 
  • 35 school teachers will receive the Training on educating mentally challenged students 
  • 7 Palliative care Assistants are provided Training on management of cerebral palsy affected children 
  • 2 staff of Disability Section are provided Training for the technicians ( to repair perk in brailler and Hearing
    devices)
  • 140 Camp Management Committee Members (20 from each camp) are provided orientation to raise
    awareness in the refugee community on the prevention and rehabilitation of people with disability
  • 1 World Disability Day is celebrated in 7 refugee camps on 3rd December, 2010.
  • 486 children with disabilities will follow education in the formal schools in the schoolyear 2009/2010
