|
Organisation mission statement The organizational vision of the BBM is to see that the basic rigfhts of the disabled people partricularly the visual disabled persons have been well established. In order to achief this vision the mission of the BBM is to create, promote and support the opportunity for treatment, training, education, rehabilitation and job, etc. and for the visually disabled people and thus assist them to be established in the main stream of the society.
Target group (i) The visually impaired or VI (both blind and low vision) children in rural and remote areas of whole Muinshigonj District most of which are from the families of below proverty level and have not receive any proper medical check up and necessary treatment or their visual disability and thus have no access to the formal education in any local normal or special (not available in the project area) schools. (ii) A number of VI children already got access to education after necessary medical check up and treatment, basic rehabilitation training and preschool training under the same type of project during the previous years and are now in need of education support for the continuation of their studies. (iii) Also the people particularly the women and children in the remote and rural areas of the Munshigonj District who are suffering from different eye deseases or eye problems and are not parmenantly visually impaired but have got no access to treatment due to either poverty or negligency. (iv) The normal children upto 6 or 7 years of age in the rural and remote areas of the Munshiogonj District who did not yet got any preventive measures against blindness simply by taking vitamin A capsules. (v) A number of poor visually impaired persons both male and female (adults and adolescents) in different families who have nothing to do in the socio economic activities in the families or in the society and have no hope of life in the future, most of which are begging door to door.
Project purpose With the proposed project we want to reach that in long term the children in the proposed project area (Munshigonj District area) most of which are of the families below proverty level are not becoming visually impaired or blind due to ignorance or lack of awareness and absence of proper eye care services upto their reach and capabilities and thus the cause of blindness has been reduced to almost nill in the Munshigonj area. The VI childeren already existing in the families in different parts of the area after receiving proper medical treatment and inclussive education are no longer considered as burden to each of their families or to the society. besides, each of them become educated and independant earning members in their families as well as in the society. The local normal and elite people in the area become more cooperative and helpful to the existing VI children and adults in the development activities of these VI persons in their areas. The VI persons both male and female (adults and adolescents) are no longer burdens to their own families and or the soceity. After having professional / skill training they are either self employed or employed by others and become earning members in their families.
Targets Description
- 30 Potential VI children in Munshigonj area after being identified, received proper medical check up and
treatment, basic rehabilitation and pre school trainings, are successfully integrated into local normal schools or classes at the end of the project year 2010.
- 277 VI children in Munshigonj area already integrated into local normal schools upto the year 2009 and also those VI children being prepared through pre school training and are waiting at homes for admission into the schools at the end of the year 2009 or begining of the year 2010 have to continue their studies with the education
support and teaching guidance from the project during the project year(2010) and at the end of the project year at least 80% of them successfully promoted to their respective next classes or grades.
- 25 New school teachers of the local normal schools in the six upozilz or subdistricts of Munshigonj District
particularly mostly the new schools in which the VI children were integrated for their formal education, have been trained under fresh and refreshers' training course on how to deal with these VI children in their classes for reading, writing and apearing in the examinations and assist them to continue their studies in the class rooms and at homes in all respect so that at the end of the project year 2010 at least 80% of these VI students are successfully promoted to their next grades.
- 10 New local normal schools in the area where the VI children were already integrated have been provided with
proper education materials and equipments for the use of the class teachers as well as the VI students so that at the end of the project year at least 80% of the VI children are successfully promoted to next grades.
- 21 Project staff members of the project have been provided with both basic and refreshers' training on their
respective roles and duties in the project so that their professional skills have been improved to achieve the main target of the project in the project year 2010.
- 300 persons (adults, adolescents and children), male and female who are suffering from various eye deseases or
eye problems but not VI persons, will be checked up preliminary by the project nurses in the field level and then in eye hospitals for detection of eye or visual problems and necessary treatment under the blindness prevention activities and referal services in eye hospitals or in the eye camps organized in the field level. The cost of around 50% of patients under the project have been found cured.
- 2 sensitization workshop has been arranged with the stack holders, Government and /nongovernment
organisation representatives, local leaders and other elite people on the proposed project purposal and distribution of posters, hand bills, leaflets etc. to create peoples awareness, and realization on the blindness prevention activities in their Munshigonj Upozila levels.
- 1 annual reunion or get together at the end of the year has been arranged with the proposed project staff
members and beneficiaries (VI children) along with the staff members of other projects of BBM to celebrate year ending and pre Christmas festival.
- 1 Learning workshop with all the concerned project staff members, school teachers, parents or gaurdians, local
government oficials and other NGO representatives in the area has been organized to share the experiences, capacity as well as weakness individually or in groups, to overcome the shortfall or weakness and thus improve the capacity and willingness for the services towards the VI children and adults under the project.
- 2000 Babies and children upto 6 or 7 years of age in the rural and remote parts of the project area in Munshigonj
District after having vitamin A capsules twice within the project year at an interval of six months have been found safe from being blind or visually impaired due to lack of vitamin A which was the common cause of blindness among the existing VI children in the District.
- 40 VI persons both adults and adolescents, male and female have been identified within the the four subdistricts
of Munshigonj District. After receiving medical check up and necessary treatment mainly cataract operation on imergency basis( upto 10 patients) in Eye Hospitals, they have been given basic rehabilitation training and white canes, then on the priority basis of assessment of their capacity and interest atleast 30 of them along with 1 family member to guide the VI persons have received CBR training through vocational training and resettlement activities on different professions suitable to them and at end of the project year 2009 at least 60% of them become independent earning members in their families and in the society.
- 8000 Villagers in 8 villages in all the 4 Subdistricts will be covered by awareness raising and blindness prevention
campaign and activities conducted by arranging home visits and counciling, meetrings, gatherings, etc. and also by postering, distributing hand bills, booklets, flash cardsets, organizing eye camps, etc. by the trained and experienced field staf members, so that at the end of the year 2010 the people in those villages can take proper precaution against blindness . Also to the adults and young people particularly the visually disabled persons in munshigonj area similar campaign and activities are to be carried out to give them the knowledge about how devastating is the HIV AIDS in human lives and how to prevent it.
