Include disability issues in mainstream development for enabling people with disabilities to achieve equal
opportunity and full participation on national development.

Target group
The direct beneficiaries of this project are children with disabilities. Implementing partner organisations and schoolteachers will also benefit from the project. Disability information and messages will be disseminated to other non-disabled students of primary schools, parents and community people.
Enhance the quality education to the learners with disabilities.
Complete 4th grade education for the PRODIEP schools' children (demonstration school of Savar area) successfully.

Project purpose
Include the children with disabilities in existing mainstream educational system in Bangladesh.

Targets Description

  • 9 Selection of partner organisations to build their capacity on mainstreaming education in primary and Partner
    organisations are oriented of project activities.
  • 54 Training of 38 Primary schoolteachers (28 from 7 org+10 from Savar), 8 (7 from 7 org+1 from Savar) NFPE
    teachers and 8 (7 from 7 org+1 from Savar) supervisors on mainstreaming education.
  • 28 Adaptation of Primary schools for accessibility of children with disabilities. (28 primary schools from 7 org)
  • 120 Children with disabilities will be enrolled into primary school and get educational materials, assistive devices.
    (4 children in each selected school) 
  • 2 primary schools are made demonstration schools in Savar.
  • 50 2 non-formal demonstration schools in Savar (near CDD office) are continueing its implementation of
    inclusive education (class 4) with 50 learners.
  • 1 Information desk for visually impaired children on inclusive education in CDD is providing information &
    promotional activities are enhanced.
  • 23 Braille text books of Class 1 to class 5 (which was composed in 2008 to print in Braille) are Printed and
    distributed.
  • 6 Technical capacity building of CDD staff (need based) and participation in different national workshops,
    conferences, seminars and special events related to mainstreaming education, development, rights,
    counselling and guidance etc.
  • 8 Eye care campaign are organized by partner organisation in the project area.
  • 32 Regular parents meeting in each organization is organised in the presence of the trained teachers, supervisors, parents of the children with disabilities and non-disabled children (at least 4 meetings in a year) & community involvement is ensured.
  • 200 Reprint E charts for distance and near vision. (200 copies)
  • 18 Follow up visits to project area from program part (9 visits) , account section of CDD (9 visits) are made.
  • 16 Organize sign language training for 8 supervisors (7 from 7 org + 1 from Savar) and 8 NFPE teachers (7 from
    7 org + 1 from Savar) for 10 days.
  • 32 Enrollment of disabled children are continued in 30 schools. (28 primary schools + 2 PRODDIP Schools+ 2
    primary schools in Savar)
  • 192 children with disabilities who are already enrolled in regular primary schools will continue their education.
