Organisation mission statement
CSF mission is to work with blind children, their families, community members, service providers and programme
planners to ensure that no child in Bangladesh is blind from potentially preventable or treatable causes and all
incurably blind children and their families have access to education, rehabilitation, recreation, self-help and equal
participation in the society and its development.

Target group
300 blind children (with cataract in both eyes) will receive high quality cataract surgery and post operative refractive correction. 600 parents and family members of blind children with cataract will receive counselling and information on child vision, need for long term followup and ways to achieve good vision after surgery. 10 local NGOs (Child Sight Network members) will be trained and encouraged to refer cataract blind children for sight restoring surgery.
1000 community volunteers (school teachers, NGO workers, CBR workers, Imams etc) will be trained and encouraged to refer cataract blind children for surgery.

Project purpose
To maintain a specialized eye hospital for children; with adequate human resource and equipments for cataract surgery for blind children so that children can access cataract surgery and regain sight, and parents can receive appropriate counselling and take necessary action for child vision.
To strenthen and utilize a network of local NGOs and community volunteers, so that community memebers are empowered to detect and refer blind children from their own community.
To provide free surgery, postoperative followup, refraction and counselling to all cataract blind children and their parents.

Targets Description

  • 600 cataract surgeries will be performed on children's eyes during the first year of the project.
  • 300 children will receive post operative refractive correction by the end of first year of the project.
  • 600 parents will receive counselling and information on followup and other services for children with visual
  • 10 local NGOs (which are part of Child Sight Network) will be tarined and encouraged to refer cataract blind
    children for treatment
  • 1000 community volunteers will be trained and encouraged to refer children for surgery
  • 1 modern paediatric ophthalmology unit will be maintained with specialised equipment and trained staff.
  • 240 children will attend at least one followup within 6 months of surgery
  • 192 children will attend at least two followup within 12 months of surgery
